Dressmaking for Beginners and Returners
This sewing workshop is aimed at those who want to learn to make their own clothes and are either beginners or returners to sewing.
Bring along your own simple dressmaking pattern of your choice, with suitable fabric and Wendy will help you to cut your pattern and give you an overview of how to make your garment. She will then be able to give guidance and tips throughout the day, tailored to your pattern and help you with any techniques you’ll need to learn to make your dressmaking project.

Skill Level: Beginners and returners to sewing
Course Duration:Saturday 10th February, 10am - 4pm
You will learn:
How to read a dressmaking pattern and how to lay out and cut your fabric. From that point on - skills learnt will be tailored to each person, depending on the garment they are making.

A sewing machine in good working order.Please note that a sewing machine that has been sat unused for some time will likely need a service to run to its full potential
Simple Sewing pattern: for either a top, dress, skirt, or (loose fit) trousers.
A basic sewing kit, including dressmaking scissors, small scissors, dressmakers’ pins, tape measure, seam ripper, 2 safety pins hand sewing needles. Tailors chalk or dressmaking marker pen/pencil.

About your tutor:
Wendy is a bespoke dressmaker and costume maker. She studied fashion design and pattern cutting in London back in the 1970’s and also qualified in millinery. She started her career working for a London film and stage costumier, making costumes and has also worked in pattern cutting and size grading for a high street store. Since then she has been dressmaking and making stage costume, historical costume, bridal and prom wear. Her speciality is working with finer fabrics with focus on detail and fit.
