Introduction to Patchwork

In this one day class, you will learn the basics of rotary cutting, accurate piecing and nesting of seams in order to produce a traditional patchwork block that we will turn into a completed cushion. We will demonstrate pressing to get your piece beautifully flat and ready to quilt using the sewing machine. After adding borders, your completed cushion front will be turned into a completed cover with a simple envelope back.

This workshop is perfect for those who have established some basic machine sewing skills.

Sewing machine in good working orderPlease note that a machine that has been sat unused for sometime will likely need a service to run to its full potential

General sewing kit including: scissors, pins, rotary cutter, long quilting ruler, cutting mat, tailor's chalk or other fabric marker

Materials:

Half a metre of fabric for borders and cushion back

Fat 8th (9"x21") of plain cotton fabric for sashing

A selection of fabric for squares. A mixture of light, dark, and mid tones

About your tutor:

Sharon has been an avid quilter and stitcher for two decades but has been sewing and creating since she was a child. She loves to sew and is keen to pass on her skills. What she loves most about patchwork is how different each project can be depending on the use of fabric and colour – the possibilities are endless!
