Skill Level: Intermediate and competent sewers
Course Duration: Saturday 28th October, 1pm - 4pm
You will learn:
The basics of fitting, starting with pinning alterations and transferring to notes. Alterations discussed will be:
- Taking in and letting out side seams
- Shaping the bust with darts
- Fitting to a shorter torso by shortening the bodice at the waist or shoulders
- Troubleshooting tricky fits
- Plus a set of 'cheat' tricks and tips
You will need to bring:
Tools:
- Sewing machine in good working order. Please note that a machine that has been sat unused for some time may need a service to be able to run to its full potential
- Thread to match the fabric of your garment
- Small scissors
- A general sewing kit to include: dressmakers pins, seam ripper and tape measure
Materials:
There will be an opportunity to work on your own project for the second part of the workshop so bring one or two items of clothing you would like to alter to fit. Dresses are a great project for this, but you can use any item of clothing that you would like to alter. Working together we will pin the desired alterations on your clothing and troubleshoot the fit so that you can start shaping the garment.
